If you find that the washer pump itself is at fault, disassemble it to get at the root of the washer problem. A foreign object may have lodged itself against the washer impeller, preventing it from turning or the washer pump bearings may be worn to the extent that the impeller shaft has "frozen." Bearing assemblies are available for many pumps which have plastic housings, and may be installed with only a screwdriver. For pumps with pressed-Ill hearings, the best course is to replace the entire pump. When reinstalling washer hoses wipe any grit from the inside of the hose before putting it back in position. Check for leaks after it is installed. If you find one, it may be necessary to alter the position of the hose lamps. Be sure that all linkages are back in position when you are hulling the pump back in place, and readjust the belt when the job is done.

Simple Clothes Washer Repairs
The parts of an automatic washer that circulate water usually require repair or replacement more often than other parts. But their problems also are fairly simple to diagnose and fix. If the washer fills up more slowly than usual, for example, and the water pressure at other faucets around your house appears normal, check the washer hoses. If they are kinked, straighten them. If they are leaking, replace them. Otherwise, you may be able to speed filling by removing and rinsing the strainer screens in the inlet hoses and valves. If the tub does not drain properly, you can install a new washer water pump yourself on many kinds of washers. But washer malfunctions involving the electrical system are difficult to troubleshoot and hard to fix without special equipment they are best left to a serviceman.

Cleaning washer water-inlet strainer screens
Turn off the water at the faucets, unplug the machine, move it out from the wall, and unscrew tie hoses from the water-inlet valve ports on the back of the washer. Try the domed strainers out of these ports with the blade of a small knife, being careful not to damage the mesh. Rinse the screens clean and put them back, domed side out. Screw on the hoses finger-tight, then use pliers to tighten one third of a turn more. If there are similar strainers in the faucet ends of the hoses, clean them too.

Check that the machine is level when it is back in place. If it is not adjust the leveling feet with a washer level wrench.
